Cruises

Dives plotted by imaging platform and with the marker size relative to the number of images collected. Zoom in to see individual dives. Dive images are available via Squidle+.

Software Development and Data Analysis

Our codes for realtime and offline data processing are maintained on our github page. Most repositories are private and only shared with our collaborators, but please contact us if you are interested in trying them out. Below are some basic examples.

AUV development trends

AUV endurance has generally increased over time, with many modern flight style platforms having endurances of multiple weeks:

AUV size has diversified over time, with both larger systems and more compact systems being developed for different applications:

Design depths are application dependant, where platforms capable of diving to the deepest parts of the ocean exist, though most target depth of less than 6000m or shallow water (<500m) applications:

USV development trends

USV endurance has increased significantly over time. Energy harvesting and envronmentally driven systems achieve multi-month to year endurance. Larger USVs that store the majority of their energy also achieve endurances of many weeks to months:

USVs have generally increased in size to carry more payload and increase endurance.

For USVs that store the majority of their energy, larger systems achieve longer endurance, while energy harvesting and environmentally driven systems achieve long endurance while remaining relatively compact.
